Travelers searching for a low-cost way to see everything the Caribbean has to offer may be a bit daunted by accommodation rates on the French island of Martinique. The island is known for its Parisian elegance and Caribbean-style resorts, and though the price tag can be shocking, many visitors might find that it is worth the expense.

Travelers looking to tour this stylish island should browse through our A to Z hotel detail pages to learn more about their possibilities when traveling to Martinique. By clicking on the name of any hotel, you'll be taken to a page with more in-depth information, which can help you to make your choice. If the options seem overwhelming, narrow the list down by sorting properties according to their star rating or by finding your favorite service or amenity under our Best Hotels For pages.

Location

Fort de France

Fort de France is Martinique's capital city, and the center of tourism on the island.  Dining, shopping, and site-seeing are all available in abundance, as are lodgings options.

Trois Ilets

Most vacationers head to the Caribbean to relax on the world famous beaches.  If you are looking forward to spending every second of your Martinique getaway sitting in the sand, Trois Ilets is the perfect locale.  Lodgings in this area include a plethora of rental and beach front properties, such as the Karibea Camelia Residence.

Types of Accommodations

Hotels

Martinique is known for its growing number of all-inclusive resorts and mega resorts, some of which even have artificial beaches to entertain visitors who are coming to simply enjoy the warm sun and blue Caribbean waters.

However, many travelers can tour the island and find a bit more local flair among the Relais Créoles, smaller and medium-sized hotels that have grouped together. These family-run establishments offer everything a mega resort can't.

Condo & Villa Rentals

Rental properties are also widely available. Renovated plantations and island villas are just the beginning. Take in country guesthouses known as Gîtes de France. These can be either self-catering apartments or quaint bed and breakfast hotels.

Camping & Eco-Tourism

Camping is a past time that Martinique's vacationers are welcome to experience between the dates of June 24 and September 30.  Guests are encouraged to pitch a tent anywhere on the island, from the forests to the beaches, though there are some areas that are not recommended.  Learn more about the topic when you visit our guide to Camping and Eco-Tourism in Martinique.

Personal Considerations

When you plan your trip to Martinique, a number of details go into deciding on the best location for your accommodations.

Party Size

As a general rule, the larger your party, the more you'll have to research your lodgings.  Sure, you can book several cheap hotel rooms to accommodate your brood, but if you take the time, you may be able to find a hotel that specializes in suites, or a rental house that is large enough to fit everyone comfortable, for a similar price.  Many of these types of locations even have extras that make it more affordable, such as a kitchen where you can cook your own meals instead of dining out.

The type of group you travel with makes a difference, also.  Hotels that go out of their way to accommodate families like Diamont Beach will obviously be a top choice if you have young children, while groups of a adults looking for a wild getaway may want to look for a locale that discourages children from staying on property.  Couples planning a romantic weekend can choose couples only resorts, or find a quaint inn known for its intimate ambiance.

Interests

Choosing a hotel near the attractions you want to visit, or a beach that you know you'll be spending a lot of time at is ideal.  Many hotels in Martinique also specialize in certain activities, like golf, fishing, or diving, and could end up saving you money when you purchase a package deal that includes these activities in the price.

Length of Stay

If you are planning to stay in Martinique for more than a week, the excitement of being on a vacation might not last as long as someone only on the island for a weekend.  This is when choosing accommodations that will make you feel at home will come in handy.  A rental property will offer you all the comforts of home, and probably save you money, than if you were to pay full price for a resort for each night of your stay.  On the other hand, for a quick trip, you'll probably want to be pampered, and have as much taken care of for you as possible, so you can make each moment count.  These vacationers will definitely want to stick to a hotel or large resort for their trip.

Quality

plenty of options... with a unique Caribbean French style.

Martinique's hotels begin at rates of about € 100 per night, but can reach over € 500 per night. Though the euro is not fixed with the U.S. dollar, at the time of this writing the conversion is a range of between $135(USD) to $676(USD) per night for hotels.

Luckily, you can find accommodations that range from minimalist to over the top luxurious in a broad range of prices, if you know where to look.  Our Star Rating system, which measures the quality of a hotel, works completely independently of price, so you will find many pricing options associated with each rating.

One and Two Stars

Typically owned and operated by one person, or a family, Martinique's 1 Star accommodations trends towards being small, but clean.  The rooms will feature sparse amenities, but the front desk may offer extra bath care products upon request.  One Star properties are great for vacationers who are on a very tight budget, or don't plan to spend much time in their hotel room.  Martinique's 1 Star properties includes Karibea Corail Residence.

When it comes to the 2 Star hotels, it is common to find that they are also independently owned, or a part of a small national chain.  The rooms are small to medium, still with few amenities, but perhaps have nicer décor than what one would find in a 1 Stare.  You may find that room service is available, or that there is a lobby bar or restaurant on property.  Martinique's 2 Star properties include Residence Oceane, La Baie du Galion Resort, and Karibea Resort Sainte Luce.

Three Stars

The 3 Star lodgings in Martinique are pretty popular, because they are often nice, yet still affordable.  They are not flashy by any means, but will have nice décor, comfortable rooms, and friendly service.  Room service, and maybe a restaurant on-site are commonplace.  Martinique's 3 Star properties include Novotel Coralia Carayou and Karibea Le Squash Hotel.

Four Stars

Above average is how one might describe a 4 Star property in Martininque.  This is where luxury furnishings and amenities begin to come to play.  You can always expect to experience the utmost of comfort in a 4 Star hotel, though nothing over the top.  Martinique's 4 Star properties includes Hotel Bakoua Martnique.

Five Stars

If you want the best, go 5 Star.  These rooms will be very well-kept, be beautifully decorated, and offer beyond comfortable bedding.  Extras like a jacuzzi tub in the room, or cell phone usage will be included.  Martinique's 5 Star properties includes Cap Est Resort and Spa.

Hotel Search

One of the great features here at Martinique Guide is our advanced hotel search tool.  By entering your prefered amenities, our database will narrow down hotels that match your needs, eliminating the need to sift through hundreds of hotels that don't have what you want.  You will also have the ability to search by availability.

We've tried to be as comprehensive and detailed as possible.  But if you need additional information or advice concerning specific hotels, you might want to try contacting the official Martinique Reservation Center (Centrale de Réservation) by telephone: 05-96-77-16-77; by fax: 05-96-77-16-78, or by e-mail: centrale@touristofficemartinique.com.

Martinique has plenty of options if you want to spend some time in the sun in a very special place, with a unique Caribbean French style.
